Malabo Dos

Malabo Dos Malabo,Africa Located off the coast of Africa, this 28 acre site will serve as the offices and residential housing for a large international oil company. The civil engineering for this development included the design of paving, grading and drainage. Since no existing utilities were in place to serve the site, RG Miller | DCCM also designed an on-site wastewater treatment plant and water plant to provide water and sanitary sewer systems to the facilities. This project required extensive coordination with all disciplines in order to design a reliable and self-sufficient project.

Energy Center I and II

Energy Center I and II Houston,TX Located within Houston’s Engergy corridor, the 638,000 square foot Energy Center I and II are the 2009 Green Project Landmark Award winner. With both buildings being fully LEED Certified, civil design took on a more in depth approach. This project consisted of several permitting procedures with the City of Houston, TxDOT and other local governing agencies. Design consisted of water, sanitary, storm sewer subsurface design, as well as Storm Water Quality feature that reduced the amount of pollutants to enter the City’s public systems. A public bike trail and a pedestrian friendly sidewalk was also designed with in the perimeter of the Energy Center campus to provide easy access for the residents wihtin the surrounding areas.

One Oak Park

One Oak Park Houston,TX Located at Oak Park at Westchase, this 8.4 acre project site is LEED Gold certified. Community Resources Credit Union Building

Community Resources Credit Union Building Baytown,TX Landev Engineers provided civil engineering services for the first phase of development, a 35,000-square-foot, two-story Community Resources Credit Union Office Building project located in Baytown, designed on a 11.88-acre tract. The design also included a drainage report, provided by Binkley Barfield | DCCM, as well as an outfall structure. The first project that Landev Engineers designed for CRCU was the outfall and drop structure for the storm sewer drainage and detention. The drop structure design modifies the existing sheet pile structure in HCFCD Ditch No. O129-00-00 by upgrading it to a concrete structure with riprap upstream and downstream. The outfall storm sewer pipe collects the water from the site and drains to HCFCD Ditch No. O129-00-00. The first phase of the on-site design consisted of fire sprinkler supply line, water meters, irrigation, and sanitary sewer service; on-site paving, grading, and drainage design; agency and project coordination; stormwater pollution prevention plan; and construction administration. A traffic analysis was performed for the intersection of Rollingbrook Drive and Rollingcreek Drive. The analysis was requested by the City of Baytown for determination of a signalized intersection. The design was reviewed and permitted through the City of Baytown to provide water and sanitary sewer service.

Haven at Elgin

Haven at Elgin Houston,TX RG Miller | DCCM recently completed site work on Haven At Elgin, an innovative high-rise student housing project by Guefen Development Partners located at the intersection of Elgin and Milby streets near the University of Houston’s main campus. The one-, two-, four- and five-bedroom apartments are designed specifically for students, with an attached full bathroom and walk-in closet for each bedroom and an open concept common area including a living room, kitchen, TV lounge, and even laundry facilities in most units. Apartment units are located in 12 stories above a four-story garage, providing 259 parking spaces for the students.  An additional 41 spaces are located in two adjacent parking lots. Using its extensive knowledge of City of Houston Ordinances, the RG Miller | DCCM site development team provided solutions to a number of new development challenges.  They incorporated certain design enhancements to allow for adjustment to city-mandated building setbacks; they worked with a manufacturer and structural engineer to design an underground detention system; and they assisted the developer in achieving a 20 percent reduction in city-mandated parking spaces. In addition, the team enhanced landscape features all around the four perimeter streets of the project, designing handicap ramps, wide sidewalks, indoor bike racks, and a pedestrian realm. Without the special pedestrian realm enhancements and specific civil design parameters, the City of Houston’s planning department would not have allowed a large building on the property. Bilal Alizai, P.E., manager of the Site Development Department, oversaw the design phases of the project, and Vinay Goel, P.E., senior project manager in the Land Development Department, supervised the project through plan approvals for construction.
