Overview of Position:
The Director of Water Resources will serve a key function in the overall functioning of their designated department; included but not limited to, business development, scope of work, scheduling, contracts, quality control, budgets staffing, and employee development and retention. In this role, you will have an opportunity to fuel R.G. Miller’s growth in the Texas market, with the backing of a well-established firm.
Essential Functions:
- Reports directly to the Vice President of Water Infrastructure.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage, motivate, mentor and lead others.
- Plan, schedule, assign, supervise, and motivate the work of project team members.
- Ensure assigned team and respective project managers remain within budgets, maintaining revenue, etc.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations, both internal and external.
- Remain in an advisory team capacity with staff relative to business decisions always maintaining an open line of communication.
- Recommend improvements to department procedures on an on-going basis, maintaining “best business practice”.
- Work closely with both department and senior project managers to resolve any existing or forecast problems related to discipline, staffing, quality of work, schedule performance, or productivity.
- Serve as a representative for the organization through business development efforts of recruiting new clients, representing RG Miller | DCCM at conferences, outside events, developer counsels, etc.
- Actively search for and obtain new clientele and project opportunities.
- Serve as technical knowledge resource for department and across RG Miller | DCCM with respect to Water Resources subject matter.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Secondary Functions:
- Support Senior Project Managers and Project Managers through input and oversight on specific projects
- Maintain and build client relationships
- Participate in contract negotiations in identified market segments
- Participate in local, regional and national professional societies or discipline related organizations
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related technical field. Master’s Degree preferred but not required.
- Licensed Texas Professional Engineer (PE).
- Minimum of 10+ years progressive design responsible experience in professional civil engineering with a focus on water resources.
- Minimum of 5+ years of project management experience, including the supervision and development of junior level engineers.
- Project experience including but not limited to stormwater, watershed management, flood resilience, coastal flood mitigation, GIS, H&H models, and urban water systems.
- Extensive business development and project management experience with local, state and federal governmental agencies, as well as with private sector clients.
- Must be project and solutions oriented, have demonstrated ability to drive assignments to closure within established timelines, be able to set priorities and be able to respond to changing demands from multiple sources, capable of multi-tasking; must possess and have demonstrated leadership and management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, time management skills and the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and creatively to solve problems and differences, as well as develop recommendations.
- Must possess excellent planning, decision making, analytical, presentation, multi-tasking, and negotiating skills, as well as possess a strong bias for action.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization, including the ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to successfully resolve sensitive employee relation issues.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Programs; working knowledge of project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project a plus.
- Maintain a professional appearance and behavior.
- Must be well organized.
